The CW Developing HAWKGIRL Series?

TV News

With Hawkgirl being a part of the upcoming DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, it’s now being reported that the character will also be getting her own solo show.

Ciara Renee has already been cast as the Kendra Saunders version of Hawkgirl, and we’ve actually briefly seen the actress in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the Season 1 finale of The Flash. Now Spoiler TV is reporting that The CW is already moving a Hawkgirl show into development, although the network themselves have yet to comment.

Renee herself is relatively unknown, with her major work being in the Broadway production of Big Fish. As for the character of Kendra Saunders, she made her comic book debut in 1999’s JSA Secret Files and Origins #1. Her great aunt was Sheira Hall, the former Hawgirl, and Hall’s soul entered Saunders’ body when Kendra took her own life. This led to her having the soul of Hawkgirl but retaining her own memories and parts of her personality. In the ever-wonderful New 52, Kendra Saunders is the Hawkgirl of Earth 2 and is a professional treasure hunter with wings grafted on to her back after some World Army experiments.

Before her solo show, Hawkgirl will be part of DC’s Legends Tomorrow along with Brandon Routh’s Atom, Victor Garber’s Martin Stein, Caity Lotz as White Canary, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, and Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson (believed to be the show’s take on either Cyborg, Black Lightning or Static Shock). The ragtag group will team together to travel through time fighting the immortal Vandal Savage.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is currently set to debut early next year, and expect more on the Hawkgirl solo show if and when it develops.

*UPDATE* The CW has made comment that a Hawkgirl show is not in development at the moment, meaning that these rumours are for now just that: rumours. We'd hazard a guess that any potential solo show for the character will depend on how well received DC's Legends of Tomorrow is.
