With The X-Files return now moving forward with a 2016 mini-series, the show has now added its first new cast member.

Joining the returning David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi will be Community’s Joel McHale. Deadline is reporting that McHale will be playing a recurring character called Tad O’Malley, described as “the anchor of a popular conservative internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.”

As well as the above confirmed cast members, it’s also believed that Annabeth Gish will be back as Monica Reyes, Robert Patrick will return as John Doggett, and William B. Davis’ Cigarette-Smoking Man will be appearing. These three returns are yet to be officially confirmed yet, though.

The X-Files will return next year for a six-part mini-series, and David Duchovny has also recently teased that there could very well be a further series to follow.
