Following on from the earlier news that Ciara Renee will be playing Hawkgirl in the upcoming ARROW/FLASH spin-off series, now comes word that Arthur Darvill has landed himself a part in the show. And not just any part, for The Hollywood Reporter has word that the DOCTOR WHO actor will be playing the role of DC fan favourite Rip Hunter.

The show had previously revealed the characteristics of three yet-to-be cast characters, with one of them referred to as ‘The Traveller’. At that time, many fans speculated that this could be Rip Hunter, and so has proven to be the case. In case you missed it, the description of the character at that time was: “A Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbours many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.”

If you’re not too familiar with Rip, he has been quite a big deal at times over the years, even fighting alongside the likes of Superman. He was created way back in 1959 by Jack Miller and Ruben Moreira and is a genius-level time-traveller who just so happens to be versed in various fighting skills from the various moments in history that he has been to.

Darvill joins as a cast that includes Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Ciara Renee as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Victor Garber as Martin Stein/one half of Firestorm, Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave, and Caity Lotz. Lotz’s specific role has been unconfirmed yet, but she is ARROW’s believed-dead Sara Lance/Canary.

Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter are developing the series, which is expected to debut in the second half of 2016.
