Ever since the upcoming ARROW/FLASH spin-off announced that it was going to be debuting some new DC heroes, many fans have been wondering just who could be a part of this new series. Well one of these new hero roles has been revealed, with Deadline reporting that Ciara Renee has been cast as Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl.

Renee herself is relatively unknown, with her major work being in the Broadway production of BIG FISH. As for the character of Kendra Saunders, she made her comic book debut in 1999’s JSA SECRET FILES AND ORIGINS #1. Her great aunt was Sheira Hall, the former Hawgirl, and Hall’s soul entered Saunders’ body when Kendra took her own life. This led to her having the soul of Hawkgirl but retaining her own memories and parts of her personality. In the ever-wonderful New 52, Kendra Saunders is the Hawkgirl of Earth 2 and is a professional treasure hunter with wings grafted on to her back after some World Army experiments.

The currently untitled ARROW/FLASH spin-off series is presently made up of Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer aka The Atom), Victor Garber (Martin Stein – one half of Firestorm), Caity Lotz (the believed dead Sara Lance aka Canary), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold), and Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory aka Heat Wave). Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter are developing the series, which is expected to debut in the second half of 2016.
