TV News

It is without exaggeration to say that ARROW is right up there with our favourite genre TV of the last few years. After a solid start, the show did wonders with its second season and has continued that pace and quality with Season 3. With the show currently on its mid-season break, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has been speaking to TVLine about some of the things that we can expect to see during the second half of Season 3. It goes without saying, there be spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

Right, let’s address the elephant in the room. Oliver Queen/The Arrow is dead. At the climax of Season 3’s mid-season finale, the Emerald Archer was absolutely schooled by Ra’s al Ghul, with the episode ending as Oliver is run through and then pushed off a cliff to his death. Now we’ve got our theories on just where things will go from here, but this news piece is about what has been said by Marc Guggenheim. So let’s get to it:

- The absence of The Arrow in Starling City “makes it necessary” for Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance to don the Canary outfit, with us already having seen promotional shots of the actress in the getup.

- The second half of Season 3 will see characters who don’t usually interact sharing screen time with each other, including Felicity and Thea and also Felicity and Laurel. Guggenheim teased, “Felicity will have some pretty big moments with Laurel as well.”

- David Ramsey’s Diggle will revisit some old wounds as the H.I.V.E. element of the character’s past will rear their head again, with Digg’s arc set to become “emotional.”

- Fan-favourite villain/anti-hero Deadshot will reappear, as will the Suicide Squad.

- Peter Stormare’s Count Vertigo will be back in Episode 13, as well as Manu Bennett’s Slade Wilson returning in Episode 14. Caity Lotz’s Sara Lance will also be back. Vertigo will be present in modern-day Starling City, whilst one would have to believe that Slade and Sara will likely appear in some of the show’s flashback moments.

- The next three episodes of the show have been described by Guggenheim as “among the best we’ve ever done. They’re incredibly compelling.” We already know that these episodes will be largely focussed on Laurel Lance making the move to becoming Black Canary, but there’s also the lingering matter of Oliver Queen’s death and the repercussions of that.

ARROW returns to US screens on Wednesday, January 21st with an episode titled LEFT BEHIND. The show’s UK return is expected in early February.
