The last month or so saw frontrunners emerge for the roles of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in the upcoming Netflix-exclusive Marvel shows. A couple of weeks ago we got confirmation that Krysten Ritter will be playing Jones, with Lance Gross and Mike Colter said to be the two names leading the race to land the Cage gig. Now comes official word that it is indeed Colter who will be playing Power Man.

Colter is an actor best known for HALO: NIGHTFALL and appearances in the likes of THE GOOD WIFE and AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN. As well as headlining Marvel’s LUKE CAGE, the character of Cage will also appear in several episodes of A.K.A. JESSICA JONES.

On the news, LUKE CAGE showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said, “Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage. We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.” Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, added, “Fans have longed to see Luke Cage brought to life and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor. Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in Marvel’s A.K.A. JESSICA JONES, and experience why he is such an important superhero in the Marvel mythos.”

The upcoming Netflix-exclusive Marvel slate will begin early next year with the Charlie Cox-starring DAREDEVIL. That will be followed by A.K.A. JESSICA JONES, then LUKE CAGE, then IRON FIST, with the four series then coming together for a crossover mini-series, THE DEFENDERS.
