News: Live-Action GOLGO 13 Movie In Development

Written by Whitney Scott Bain Friday, 23 September 2011

Movie News

Davis Films has acquired the feature film rights to Tako Saito's GOLGO 13, Japan's longest running Manga.

Golgo 13, otherwise known as Duke Togo, is a professional assassin for hire, blessed with unbelievable combat skills and a strict code of honour - ultimately making him a modern day samurai.

Two previous feature films were made with Ken Takakura and Sonny Chiba in the lead, as well as two animated films, a television series and various video games.

Davis Films past venture into the Japanese Manga world was the live-action CRYING FREEMAN movie starring Mark Dacascos.

The main question is, who would make a great Duke Togo/Golgo 13? It's a challenging role in that he rarely speaks and conveys what little emotion he has through his eyes as he's always thinking. He's an intense character that lives life on the edge every second of the day, as he knows that maybe one day his time will be up.

Personally, I would have an open casting call and use an unknown who is familiar with weapons and martial arts to give the character credibility.

For fans of the manga, who would you choose? Let us know in the Comments below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
