Movie News: First Theatrical Trailer For TOTAL RECALL Debuts...

Written by Robert Keeling

Movie News

The full length trailer has been released for the upcoming TOTAL RECALL remake courtesy of UNDERWORLD and LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD director Len Wiseman. The film will obviously borrow in part from the 1990 Arnie-starring version but will apparently include more of the political themes originally covered in Philip K. Dick’s 1966 novelette WE CAN REMEMBER IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE.

Eye-brows have inevitably been raised at yet another Hollywood remake and the original’s status as a bona fide cult classic does add extra pressure onto this new version to offer something a little different.

On first watch, the new movie does look a far flashier affair and obviously Colin Farrell is a whole different kettle of acting fish to the Governator. Plus it’s got BREAKING BAD’s Brian Cranston as arch baddy Vilos Cohaagen, which looks like a choice piece of casting in my eyes. However, the over-the-top ridiculousness of the Verhoeven original was part of its charm whereas this time out the filmmakers are obviously going for a more serious, post-INCEPTION, 21st Century take on the story.

It remains to be seen how the finished article will turn out but this trailer looks pretty intriguing and will no doubt whet appetites ahead of its summer release.

TOTAL RECALL opens in UK cinemas August 22nd.
