Movie News: Gavin O’Connor and Channing Tatum To Give Us NEVERLAND

A while back actor Channing Tatum (G.I. JOE) and writer Billy Ray (THE HUNGER GAMES) were shopping around a screenplay entitled PETER PAN BEGINS. The script must have pleased someone because Sony have snapped up the script and have brought in Gavin O’Connor (WARRIOR) to direct.

The film is now entitled NEVERLAND and although details are scarce you can expect a gritty reinvention of JM Barrie's classic fairytale. So what this probably means is a pimp Captain Hook, a drug dealing Smee, Wendy as a prostitute with a heart of gold and a buff Peter Pan played by Tatum. I kid, but you can tell what sort of direction this will likely take, I mean Channing Tatum isn’t exactly a childlike figure is he?

It seems these days if you want something to hit big at the box office you have to chuck grit in the eye of the original concept. JOHN CARTER’s recent dismal performance has probably put the end to wide eyed wonder and non cynical films for a while…
