R.I.P. Dick Tufeld 1926 - 2012

Written by Whitney Scott Bain Wednesday, 25 January 2012

Movie News

Dick Tufeld, the man with the unique voice best known for Dr. Smith's nemesis and Will Robinson's best friend, the B-9 robot from Irwin Allen's Lost In Space, has passed away.

Mr. Tufeld began his career in radio in the 1950s as an announcer for the American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) moving on to several Disney television shows including Zorro, which starred future Lost In Space lead Guy Williams.

Mr. Tufeld also provided the voiceover narration for Allen's other TV shows such as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and The Time Tunnel.

Years later, he would lend his talents to the 1978 animated Fantastic Four series, Thundarr the Barbarian, Spider Woman and Spiderman and His Amazing Friends.

Mr. Tufeld attended many science fiction convention in the United States. This writer had the privilege of meeting him once and found him to be funny and charming with his fans. For the price of $20.00 he would record his voice for you for your answering machine. A great piece of history from a great man.

Though he is gone, he will always be remembered by us.
