Now this is getting silly... The live-action AKIRA project at Warner Bros. has once again been shut down due to budgetary concerns.
Those following the story so far, the long-in development re-imagining of the 1988 animated classic was first being handled by BOOK OF ELI director Albert Hughes, until it was scrapped earlier last year. A new script was then drafted which reportedly slashed the budget in half. Jaume Collet-Serra (ORPHAN) was brought in to replace a no-doubt very fed up Hughes and all was looking good, with casting looking pretty solid with names like Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, and Gary Oldman being bandied about.
And now we're back to square one, with the studio ordering all pre-prodution staff to down tools until further notice.
Will we ever see this movie? Who knows. But the more pertinent question should be 'does anybody actually care anymore'?
Didn't think so.
