Movie News: Home Invasion Hoodie Horror THEM Heading to Hollywood

Written by Kris Heys Wednesday, 26 October 2011

Movie News

2006's French thriller ILS (or THEM, as it was known overseas) was an effectively tense but ultimately unrewarding home invasion movie by David Moreau & Xavier Palud. Now, upcoming director David Alcalde and StudioCanal plan to remake that effectively tense but ultimately unrewarding home invasion movie back to our multiplexes. The twist: no subtitles this time around! Awesome!*

Just why it needs to be remade by Hollywood now is anyones guess, having been done many times since with the likes of THE STRANGERS, and the still unreleased (over here anyway) KIDNAPPED to name but two. It's also bemusing why each film within this certain sub-genre absolutely has to have the same nihilistically bleak outcome. What are they, PSA's? Home invasion is bad, we get it! How about telling an actual story.

The proposed remake will go by the name of SIX, which is a good move considering how many people thought they were buying a ticket to a movie about giant atomic super ants.

Oh. Just me then.

* As the risk of inciting reader vitriol, better just clarify that I'm being sarcastic here. These Hollywood remakes of foreign properties are, of course, utterly pointless and only serve the mass audiences who are repelled at the thought of having to actually read words on a night off. Or 'idiots', as they're otherwise known.

Thoughts? Share 'em with your fellow fans of brutal home invasion movies that serve little purpose other than make us weep for humanity in the Comments below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag

Hmmm. I'd rather see a remake of the giant atomic super ants, I think. Surely that's ripe for a remake? Dammit...might have to go and watch it again now, I love me those giant ants!!
