With a pedigree which includes ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER and PROMETHEUS, director Ridley Scott planned film for FOX, THE MARTIAN, has got a lot to live up to.

Deadline has reported that Kate Mara (of Netflix drama HOUSE OF CARDS) has been tapped for a role in Scott’s upcoming sci-fi bonanza. Mara, who is also set to play The Invisible Woman in Fox’s FANTASTIC FOUR reboot, will be playing opposite Matt Damon in some capacity. Earlier this month, Deadline revealed that Jessica Chastain and Kristin Wigg were courting lead roles.

The script, which concerns an astronaut who is marooned on mars, was developed by Drew Goddard (THE CABIN IN THE WOODS) from the novel by Andy Weir.

THE MARTIAN is set for a November 2015 release.
