Our friends at the Grimm Up North horror film festival have just announced this, and we're certain many of you guys are eager to hear the deets so we thought we'd share. Here's their press release...

ROBIN HARDY TO ATTEND GRIMM UP NORTH!

Robin Hardy is the cult filmmaker’s cult filmmaker. Director of the legendary THE WICKER MAN in 1973, and the fascinating rarity THE FANTASIST in 1986, he is the most elusive of auteurs. And so Grimm Up North are thrilled to announce that Robin will be attending the North West Premiere screening of his first film in 35 years, the much-anticipated THE WICKER TREE, which will be bringing this year’s festival screenings to a suitably dramatic close. Based on his own novel, COWBOYS FOR CHRIST, the film sees Robin revisiting many of the themes of the seminal earlier film, albeit from a 21st Century perspective. Whereas the original film saw Scots Calvinism, conformity, and law and order confronted by a paganism that chimed in very closely with the commune-dwelling hippy folk revivalism of the late 60s and early 70s, the new film brings the kind of Christian fundamentalism that currently has so much sway in America bang up against some very old world paganism, with rather more… mischievous results. Robin will be introducing the film and there will be a Q&A afterwards. This promises to be a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the mind and creative processes of one of cinema’s great mavericks, to ask all of those questions you’ve always had about THE WICKER MAN, and to discover what drove Robin to revisit its timeless themes.

THE WICKER TREE, SCREENING 9.10pm, Sunday 9th October 2011
