Movie News

For years now, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been rumoured to play a slew of DC characters. Over the last couple of months, it seemed that Johnson had his pick of playing either Shazam or Black Adam in Warner Brothers’ DC cinematic realm. Taking to Twitter, the hulking actor has confirmed that he will indeed be playing the villainous Black Adam.

Johnson revealed, “Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot. My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics”

SHAZAM is rumoured to be the title of one of WB’s upcoming DC movies, although no confirmation has come from the studio to say that the film is official happening yet. As such, no writer, director or other talent has been announced, although we can now at least confirm Johnson’s role.

The character of Black Adam, originally called Teth-Adam of Kahndaq, first appeared way back in 1945’s MARVEL FAMILY #1. Best known as a villain in the DC world, Black Adam, as alluded to by Johnson, has also been an anti-hero of sorts at certain points. One of the most imposing names in the DCU, Adam’s key attributes include strength and agility on a similar level to the likes of Superman and Shazam, not to mention the ability to manipulate lightning and use magic. Safe to say, the guy’s pretty nails and can be a right nasty bastard to boot.

In terms of a release, the last batch of rumours seemed to suggest that SHAZAM would hit screens in 2016, after BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE’s March 25th, 2016 release. As it happens, Warner Brothers do have a release date on August 5th, 2016 reserved for an unknown DC-based project.

Additionally, WB has also registered the online domain names of ShazamMovie.com, WonderWomanTheMovie.com, AquamanMovie.com and JusticeLeagueFilm.com, giving further indication that we’ll be seeing some of those long-rumoured movies head to the big screen at some point over the next few years.

Is that purely because he posts lots of visual wonders about his upcoming projects or is more the fact that he's often shown busting out the guns?
