 Audition

Audition is joining a long line of Hollywood remakes of Japanese horror films (The Grudge, The Ring et al). The trend isn’t exclusively Japanese-centric, of course, with imitations of the Swedish almost-perfect Let The Right One In.

The infamous 1999 film, based on the novel of the same name by Ryu Murakami, has become a cult classic both to Western and Eastern audiences; a regular on Sky Movies and you’ll be hard pressed not to find a few copies on the high street. It’s difficult not to interpret the decision as gimmicky at best and money-grubbing at worst.

Nevertheless, Richard Gray of The Lookalike fame is directing the remake, with Mario Kassar (Terminator, Rambo) producing.

The film is expected to start shooting later this year, with Gray adapting a script of his own penning. What do you make this one?
