Movie News: Help Make Lao Horror CHANTHALY Open Source

Movie News

There is still a little under a week remaining in the fundraising campaign for Lao horror DEAREST SISTER (more details here) and the film’s director Mattie Do has announced a development almost as big as the sugar rush she’s clearly high on. If the fundraising goal of the film is reached then she will release her first film CHANTHALY onto the internet open source, meaning that all 400GB of digital footage and associated project files will be made available for anyone to use without restriction in whatever way they see fit.

CHANTHALY, which was also the first horror film ever made in Laos, tells the story of a terminally ill girl haunted by the ghost of her dead mother. Watch the trailer here.

DEAREST SISTER’s campaign received a huge boost after its video was given a feature article on popular torrent site EZTV, whose users were subsequently responsible for 90% of the traffic to the fundraiser page, and received more contributions from them than any other source. The prospect of access to ready made film footage has clearly been a big incentive and the contributions to DEAREST SISTER currently stand at just over two thirds of its $30,000 goal, with plenty of time left for it to reach its target.
