Exciting news has just hit regarding the next release from Eureka! Entertainment's Masters of Cinema series! Read on for full details...

The definitive restoration of the first true horror film, the 1920 silent masterpiece that is DAS CABINET DES DR. CALIGARI will be released theatrically on 29 August 2014 and will open at the BFI Southbank and other selected cinemas nationwide, and will feature as part of Scalarama’s core programme throughout September (check out www.scalarama.com for more details). This will be followed by a Dual Format (Blu-ray & DVD) edition as part of Eureka’s award-winning the Masters of Cinema Series on 29 September 2014.

One of the most iconic masterpieces in cinema history, Robert Wiene's  shook filmgoers worldwide and changed the direction of the art form. Now presented in a definitive restoration, the film’s chilling, radically expressionist vision is set to grip viewers again.

Incalculably influential, the film’s nightmarishly jagged sets, sinister atmospheric and psychological emphasis left an immediate impact in its wake (horror, film noir, and gothic cinema would all be shaped directly by it). But this diabolical tale nevertheless stands alone - now more mesmerising than ever.

"At a local carnival in a small German town, hypnotist Dr. Caligari presents the somnambulist Cesare, who can purportedly predict the future of curious fairgoers. But at night, the doctor wakes Cesare from his sleep to enact his evil bidding…"
