Movie News

Channing Tatum playing Gambit in a future X-MEN movie seems a given at this point. As well as producer Lauren Shuler Donner regularly spouting off about how she’d love the MAGIC MIKE star to play Remy LeBeau, the actor himself has talked about being open to playing a superhero role. Now, speaking to MTV, Tatum has revealed that he’s had talks with Donner about playing the coolest of the X-Men.

Tatum said, “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south, I just related to him.”

On what he liked about the Cajun, he added, “He’s just kind of suave. He’s the most un-X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in the X-Men. Other than maybe Wolverine, who’s like the anti-hero. He’s not even a hero. He’s kind of walking the line of grey. He loves women and drinking and smoking and stuff, so he’s just a cool guy who happens to have a moral centre. I hope it comes together. You never know, it’s a weird industry. If the stars align, I would die to play it. I’m already working on the accent. It’s crappy at the moment.”

Whilst X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE featured Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Bryan Singer has mentioned several times that he’s looking at having a version of the character in 2016’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Added to this, Donner has recently talked about how she'd love to do a Gambit solo movie at some point.

So the producers want Channing Tatum for Gambit, Channing Tatum wants to play Gambit, director Bryan Singer has discussed how he wants Gambit to appear in APOCALYPSE. Surely it’s a given, right? These things don’t always pan out, but this one looks like it has a fair chance of coming to fruition.

As ever, expect to hear more on this as it develops, cher.
