Movie News

Last month came a rumour that Marvel would be releasing a movie to go up against Warner Brothers’ MAN OF STEEL sequel. The rumour at the time was that CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 would be given the nod to go head-to-head with the Batman and Superman mash-up. Well all of that has now been confirmed.

First up, Marvel Studios has confirmed that CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 will be released on 6th May, 2016, putting it up against Zack Snyder’s still untitled MAN OF STEEL sequel. As suggested in our recent interview with the brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, will be back to direct the third Cap-centric movie. Also returning will be screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Both Markus and McFeely worked on the script for the previous two Cap films.

With CAP 3 a goer, there has been rumours that Warner Brothers may move their MAN OF STEEL sequel to stop any head-to-head with such a big Marvel/Disney production. Speaking to, Warner Brothers’ President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman was less than committal. He said, “It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 6th May, 2016. However, at this time, we are not considering a change of date for BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.”

For now at least, it appears that there will be a blockbuster box office showdown between CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 and the MAN OF STEEL sequel. As mentioned by Fellman, though, there is a lot of time to go between now and the 6th May, 2016 release date.
