Movie News: Ghost House Pictures Officially Rebooting THE GRUDGE

America has yet to successfully remake Japanese horror, but the silver-lining is that the original and largely better films get more attention, as in the case of Takashi Shimizu’s JU-ON: THE GRUDGE. The original deftly scared the pants off many viewers, enough to warrant a painfully mediocre English language remake, starring everybody’s favourite slayer, Sarah Michelle Geller, two years later. Although Shimizu was still at the helm, it failed to garner the same kind of critical acclaim of the original, and J-horror just seemed like flavour of the month.

It’s little surprise then that after ten years, THE GRUDGE is set to return. EVIL DEAD maestro Sam Raimi and his production company, Ghost House Pictures launched the film in 2004, and are now breathing new life into a stale cadaver. Alongside the Good Universe company, Ghost House Pictures have gotten MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN writer Jeff Buhler at work on the script, which will more than likely follow the lead of the original.

It’s a sorry state of affairs that it can be as little as a few years before the reboot button is pressed and, predictably, hit again and again. No dates have been confirmed.
