Movie News

Despite the groans of many, Miles Teller was recently cast as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in 20th Century Fox’s rebooted FANTASTIC FOUR, to be directed by CHRONCILE’s Josh Trank. Speaking to IGN, the 27-year-old has been discussing this latest incarnation of the FF.

On what drew him to the role, Teller said, “Well, for me I didn’t grow up really as a comic book kid necessarily. FANTASTIC FOUR is my dad’s favourite superhero comic. And so, for me, I guess what attracted me originally was Josh Trank. I think Josh Trank is a very creative, inventive guy. You look at CHRONICLE, you look at what he did for that budget, and just how he told the story was really well done. I want to chase directors at this point, and then the cast kind of came together – Michael B. [Jordan]. Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell – I was very excited.”

Teller then went on to discuss the current popularity of the superhero movie, saying, “I was joking around about a year ago, ‘I guess I’ll be playing a superhero soon’ because that’s just the world that we’re in, but I think a lot of times it just looks like Hollywood actors in Halloween costumes, you know? And I think what we’re going to do with FANTASTIC FOUR is going to be very grounded and it made sense to me.”

He elaborated, “When I read the script, I didn’t feel like I was reading this larger-than-life, incredible superhero tale. These are all very human people that end up having to become I guess what is known as the Fantastic Four. So, for me, it was just a really good story and gives me an opportunity to play something different from my own skin. It’s a proper character and that’s my favourite stuff to do.”

We don’t know about you, but does anybody else actually like seeing larger-than-life superheroes brought to life on the big screen? And also, I challenge anybody out there to be less enthused about this project than us folks here at Starburst.

Yes, we enjoyed Chris Nolan’s Bat trilogy and so much of what that series offered to audiences, but damn you Nolan and this infatuation that you’ve caused amongst so many to make everything “grounded.” What happened to just letting superheroes be, well, super?! Let them be spectacular, let them be over the top, let them be these beings that you’d see in your wildest imagination, let them be fun, let them have an element of unbelievability to them. Whilst a whole lot of people are worried about what Sony and Marc Webb are doing with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN world, at least they’re seemingly embracing the tone and spectacular nature of the world’s that these iconic characters live in. Whether it works, that's the big question, but at least they're going all out to accomplish something memorable. What's the betting that this latest FF ends up as an even more forgettable project than Tim Story's 2000s' films?

Either way, Josh Trank’s FANTASTIC FOUR is currently scheduled to start production imminently, with a release date of 19th June, 2015 set.

And there was me thinking I may have been a a tad hard on the film. Glad that the majority are wincing at the thought of this reboot.

Evan Tim Story's films had elements of the fantastic! I've pretty much given up on this one already.

The Grounded Four doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
