*** Spoilers for IRON MAN 3 ahead! ***

Since Sir Ben Kingsley first teased his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe while promoting the cosmic clunker that was ENDER’S GAME, we all figured out straight away that it would take the form of a Marvel One Shot. It was either that or an appearance on AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. In hindsight it’s a shame it wasn’t the latter, as that show could use all the help it can get. Anyhoo, the first official details of ALL HAIL THE KING have been released via Entertainment Weekly, and it seems that the rumours of some form of retaliation from the “real” Mandarin were indeed true. Now in Seagate Prison, Trevor Slattery is visited by a documentarian (Scoot McNairy, ARGO) who’s after the inside scoop on the terrorist ruse that played out in IRON MAN 3. It transpires that the order of The Ten Rings are in fact a real terrorist organisation, and from that we can surmise, it’s highly likely its leader, The Mandarin, is too. Wonder what they'll make of Aldrich Killian & Slattery's actions? We'll have to wait and see.

Check out the first look images below, and then head over to to read an extensive interview on the short with writer Drew Pearce.

ALL HAIL THE KING will be available exclusively on the THOR: THE DARK WORLD Blu-ray, in stores late Feb (pre-order by clicking here).

I thought that Kingsley-as-Mandarin was a good updating of an intrinsically racist and badly dated character, so I was a bit disappointed to see it squandered as a joke.

In the novelisation of the first Iron Man, Raza (the mercenary leader) mentions that the big-ass ring he was wearing was emblematic of "the one I serve". I've never been entirely clear how canonical novelisations are considered to be, but if the "true" Mandarin is yet to be seen, I'd be interested to see how they interpret his alien starship rings, since the MCU productions seem to be keeping magic out of anything not involving Thor (and presumably Doctor Strange if/when he appears).

Or maybe the writer is working off the information presented in the movie, rather than making assumptions based on the comic books.

You'd have to be a fool to do the latter.

Writer clearly don't know his Marvel mythos. Knob. End.

We already knew the Ten Rings were a real terrorist organization, though. They're the ones who kidnap Stark in the first Iron Man film.

That's all good by me. It can act as a first step towards some sort of rectification for that awful Mandarin 'twist' in Iron Man 3.
