Many consider Alvin Schwartz’s collection of folklore and urban legend spooky tales to be some of the most frightening to ever populate children’s literature. So it seems perfectly logical to bring this book series (1981-1991) to the big screen. Chock full of near demented illustrations (from Stephen Gammelland darkness, it’s likely that a future film adaptation could excel. Films like Joe Dante’s The Hole, Walter Murch’s Return to Oz and Nicholas Roeg’s The Witches, all show that children’s films can be frightening and so we could get some of the same with this project.

Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV Saw 3D) have penned a script for the adaptation and while no directors or cast are attached, Deadline reports there is currently a bidding war for it. The film apparently adapts some of the books' tales into one singular plot and sees a group of children see their nightmares come true in their hometown. The source material is certainly a cult sweetheart and fondly feared and recalled by many a reader with a torch under their bed covers! Colour us intrigued at this one…what was that? There’s something outside the window?!
