With THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 on the way next year, not to mention THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4 already confirmed, it appears that Sony Pictures have some very serious plans in place for Webhead and his world.

Speaking at a presentation to investors, Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal revealed, “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains.”

It’s already been rumoured that we’ll be seeing the Sinister Six in a future film, but it seems as if Sony has even bigger plans.

At the same presentation, Sony Pictures’ CEO Michael Lynton added, “There are a number of scripts in the works.”

With Rhino, Electro, and the Green Goblin on Spidey’s short-term horizon, there’s been various rumours of the likes of Malice, Vulture, Black Cat, and Carnage to make small cameo appearances in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, setting up larger parts down the road.

Quite who could garner enough attention from the general public to warrant their own spin-off film, that’s the big question.

Venom is the big one, and he’s been at various stages of development for a solo film over the years. Could we finally get to see Eddie Brock in his own, twisted outing?

Given that any spin-off would likely revolve around a hero, or anti-hero in Venom’s case, the only other character that we can imagine getting their own, given who Sony has the rights to, would be Black Cat... but would there really be demand for such a film?

Expect more on this as it develops.
