Movie News

And to think, I was only bigging up TRICK ‘R TREAT to someone yesterday…

With Halloween nearly upon us, what better way to announce a sequel to one of best Halloween treats of recent memory. Yes, TRICK ‘R TREAT is getting a sequel. Writer/director Michael Dougherty confirmed the news to EW.

Dougherty said, “It’s funny because when I first dreamt up the idea of making the first film, I thought, ‘How neat would it be if we made them a series? I’m a firm believer that October should be filled with Halloween or horror movies.”

In terms of a release, the first film was initially planned for a cinematic release in 2007, before being delayed massively and going straight-to-DVD in 2009.  The apparent plan at present is that Legendary Pictures are looking to develop the sequel with a theatrical release in mind.

Dougherty added, “I think we’ll shake it up a little bit. There are different archetypes I’d like to explore, different types of monsters. We covered werewolves, vampires, and zombies, but there’s a whole slew of different creatures out there that we haven’t tackled, and I think Sam would probably be pretty good buddies with. So I think it’s time to let them have their time in the sun.”

By Sam, Dougherty is referring to the messed-up little pumpkin-outfit-adorned rascal that can be seen in all of the first film’s individual tales.

It seems that TRICK ‘R TREAT 2 won’t be arriving until October, 2015, but this is awesome news to me. Fingers crossed that any possible sequel lives up to the standard of Dougherty’s initial movie.
