Movie News

Starting out in 2007, The Spanish-language [REC] Horror franchise is one of many examples that European horror is buzzing like a chainsaw at the moment. After the visceral found footage mastery of the first film, Directors Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró returned with an ambitious and daring 2009 follow-up. Then we hit a snag, with Paco Plaza’s polarising [REC] 3: Genesis, which ditched the camera, the prior narrative and attempted to take a comedic route. A vastly disappointing turn of events but fear not or perhaps do fear, because [REC] 4: Apocalypse is well on the way.

Jaume Balagueró is behind the camera, on his own this time, to direct the follow-up to the main story developed across parts 1 and 2. That said, there is cause for concern, as the film will not be made in the found footage style - not only a defining factor in the first two films but the bleedin’ reason behind the franchise's title. Well to get you in the mood, here is a selection of on-set images from the production of the film, via the horror lovers at Dread Central. Hopefully this fourth and apparently final film in the series can redeem the franchise and close Angela’s story as masterfully as they opened it. Who wouldn’t want to see another 15-minute “what the frig is that?” climax?

The film awaits a confirmed UK premiere date, but is released on the 10th October 2014 in Spain.

Official Synopsis:

Angela Vidal, the young television reporter who entered the building with the fireman, manages to make it out alive. But what the soldiers don’t know is that she carries the seed of the strange infection. She is to be taken to a provisional quarantine facility, a high-security installation where she will have to stay in isolation for several days. An old oil tanker, miles off shore and surrounded by water on all sides, has been especially equipped for the quarantine.
