Movie News: Joss Whedon Says James Spader Was His ‘First And Only’ Ultron Pick

With James Spader now firmly confirmed as taking on the role of the maniacal robot known as Ultron in the Marvel Universe, director Joss Whedon has given this thoughts on the casting.

In an official Marvel interview, Whedon said, “Spader was my first and only choice. He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous. Ultron is not HAL. Spader can play all of the levels. He’s the guy to break The Avengers into pieces.”

We’re well and truly on the Spader-train, so we’re glad Whedon’s singing from the same hymn sheet. As for Ultron’s appearance in the MCU, let the carnage commence!

Ultron is set to make his bow in 1st May, 2015’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.
