The Secret Service News

According to Variety, the big-screen adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ THE SECRET SERVICE has found itself a female lead in the way of MOONFLEET’s Sophie Cookson. The young actress reportedly beat off interest from Emma Watson for the role. Cookson joins a cast that includes Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the story centres around Jake (Firth), a British secret agent who looks to recruit his rebellious nephew Gary (Egerton) to join the cause. Millar’s also confirmed that Mark Hamill is in talks to join the film as himself, as he appears in an early part of the comic-book story.

Whilst Cookson, as well as Egerton, are seen as unknowns, it’s not the first time that Vaughn has pulled off such a move. Did anybody really know Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Chloe Moretz before he cast them in KICK-ASS? Did any of the big studios really see Daniel Craig as a leading man before he was cast in Vaughn’s LAYER CAKE?

With a script by Vaughn and Jane Goldman, THE SECRET SERVICE is currently looking at a 14th November, 2014 release.
