News: What Say You, Boils & Ghouls? Up For More TALES FROM THE CRYPT?

Hmmm. Not sure about this idea at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the original EC Comics source material and its seven season run on HBO from 1989 - 1996, but the producers of this new TALES FROM THE CRYPT project are already making some odd decisions.

Gil Adler, who was one of the original producers of the TV show, has joined forces with co-founder of BOOM! Studios Andrew Cosby have decided the old format of self-contained horror stories is outdated, and they've decided to update it for the reboot:

"It will be an ongoing series that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context… It’s all about continually elevating the genre, for both existing fans of the source material and mainstream audiences." says Crosby

Told you it was odd. TALES FROM THE CRYPT has always been an anthology (the 's' at the end of the word 'Tale' is the giveaway), so to reboot it as an ongoing serial just doesn't make sense. Even the two big-screen outings for the franchise - DEMON KNIGHT and BORDELLO OF BLOOD - though enjoyable, didn't feel right. And where does this leave the good ol' Crypt Keeper himself? I doubt that this show will have any room for him at all. There's also no mention of the real creative forces behind the original - including Richard Donner, Joel Silver, and Robert Zemeckis - being involved. Which again, doesn't bode well.

I'm all up for a new ongoing series, sure - but don't pretend it's got anything to do with this beloved property.

TALE FROM THE CRYPT is currently looking for a home on either a network (in which case it'll be canned within a few episodes), or cable. We'll keep you in the loop when, or if, any progress is made.

Sounds like potentially a new version of Supernatural or something... But, hard to say if too much is being read-in to what has been said - maybe they'll not be returning to the TV series, or the original comics... but perhaps they'll keep the Crypt Keeper and add an episodic narrative or keep characters encountering new stories each week... maybe the whole series won't happen - either way, I hope it does...

I would love some more Tales, but it doesn't look like its going in the same direction that is synonymous with the show I remember. I just hope it retains that same feel and scare- factor cant kept mean watching, and still a fan.

They shouldnt use the name if its nothing like the original.
