...And by that we mean, as rumoured, he’ll be lending his trademark tough-guy rasp to the CGI character of Groot, the badass, sentient Space Tree.

“I’m an actor. I can do whatever the **** I want,” Diesel told The LA Times when quizzed why he agreed to voice the character. “As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations. So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring.”

To be honest, we’re a little disappointed in this news. If he were to voice anybody, it would surely have been more interesting to cast him as Rocket Raccoon. And the fact Groot only ever utters the one line in the comic books - “I am Groot” (think Hodor in GAME OF THRONES) - this is going to be Vin’s easiest payday to date! Bit of a waste really.

In more interesting GUARDIANS news, pap shots have started to trickle online from a recent shoot on London’s millennium bridge, featuring a gaggle of alien citizens running for their lives. Got to love the eclectic make-up on display, from elaborate prosthetics to simply slapping on some yellow paint, and if this is an indication of what's to come the Marvel Cosmic Universe might just throw down the (Infinity) gauntlet to STAR WARS in terms of bringing practical effects back to our screens. Only a few years ago this would likely have all been CGI. Head over to ComingSoon.net for the full gallery.
