Millionaire, genius, criminal mastermind, twelve years old. ARTEMIS FOWL, the hero of Eoin Colfer’s popular young adult fantasy series, will finally be coming to cinema screens soon.

Rumours of adaptations trapped in development hell have been circulating since the first book’s release in 2001, but the announcement came today that Disney and The Weinstein Company are now getting one off the ground. HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX scriptwriter Michael Goldenberg is on board, as are Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal as executive producers.

The live action film will adapt the first two books of the series. These follow young Artemis as he kidnaps Captain Holly Short, a fairy of the LEPrecon Unit, in an attempt to steal her magic and save his family. He soon becomes embroiled in a dangerous world of fairies and demons.
