Movie News

Now, this could turn out to be utter bollocks ala that notorious AMAZING SPIDER-MAN poster that fooled us all recently, OR, it could be our first look at the official teaser poster for the upcoming Judge Dredd reboot. In which case - awesome! Here it is...

Simple, but effective. We like. How about you, guys?

DREDD marks the second outing for the Mega-City One law-enforcer (the less said about Stallone's abysmal 1995 movie the better) and will be brought to us by director Pete Travis (VANTAGE POINT), working from a script by acclaimed writer Alex Garner.

Without the ego of a Hollywood A-lister dictating changes to the story (yes, we're looking at you Stallone - we know that's why the writers had to develop a story in which Dredd lost his helmet in the first 15 minutes) DNA Films are hopefully going to deliver a film worthy of the comic-book's darkly comedic tone. Not that they've gone for unknowns, mind...

So we've got LORD OF THE RINGS' Karl Urban as Judge Dredd, JUNO's Olivia Thirlby as his partner Judge Anderson, and THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES' Lena Headey as the film's villain Madeline 'Ma-Ma' Madrigal. And Rob Schneider returns as-- sorry, can't do it to you, (I kid of course).

Here's the official synopsis:

"DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip."

And it's not just us who are excited about the project either; having seen an early draft of the DREDD screenplay, original creator John Wagner commented "I have read the script and seen Jock's visuals. While I can't go into detail about the content I can say that it's high-octane, edge-of-the-seat stuff, and gives a far truer representation of Dredd than the first movie."

They'd better!

DREDD is preliminarily scheduled for a December 1st release in the UK (we hope it's preliminary otherwise the poster is definitely bogus), while we still await confirmation dates for all other territories.

Is this genuine, or another clever fake? Regardless, who among you are looking forward to taking another trip to Mega-City One then?
