For many, the 1990s animated series CAPTAIN PLANET AND THE PLANETEERS was a big part of their childhood. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the rights to a live-action film based on the popular TV series are being acquired by Sony Pictures.

The show struck a chord with younger viewers, integrating superhero elements with environmental plot devices in an attempt to educate people on environmental concerns. The live-action film, CAPTAIN PLANET, will be produced by Don Murphy, Susan Montford, and Mark Gordon, with Andrea Giannetti stepping in as supervisor.
