Movie News

Right, let’s start from the beginning. Earlier this week it was reported that Shailene Woodley’s scenes as Mary Jane Watson have already been cut from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, with the actress having to wait until THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 to step into the MJ shoes. To follow up on this, it was later reported that Woodley had left the series altogether, with the official line putting down to scheduling conflicts. It was then reported that COSMOPOLIS’ Sarah Gadon was to take on the Mary Jane role in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. Well, we’re now getting news that Gadon is definitely not playing MJ, but that the actress will appear briefly in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.

The Wrap's Jeff Sneider was the first to confirm this latest news. Taken to Twitter, he said, “100% CONFIRMED: Sarah Gadon IS in Amazing Spider-Man 2 briefly. She is NOT playing Mary Jane Watson, who will NOT appear  until Part THREE. A FALSE rumour started that Sarah replaced Shailene as MJ. She confirmed on ET Canada she’s in the movie. Fans made a connection. It’s wrong. Nothing else to report, so calm down everyone. No drama here to see. Marc Webb cut MJ appearance to streamline the story.”

Gadon has also moved to clarify these rumours, taking to her Twitter to say, “To all those on Twitter, I will not be playing MJ in Spider-Man. I have a role in the film, but it is not that one

So, where we’re at now is that Sarah Gadon has indeed joined the franchise but there is still a Mary Jane-shaped vacancy at pressent.

Expect to hear more on this as it develops.
