News: What's This About a BOBA FETT Movie?!

Movie News

In one of the craziest rumours we’ve heard in the longest time, director Joe Johnston (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER) has been talking about the possibility of a new STAR WARS movie... starring everybody's favourite bounty hunter!

“I’m trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett…I would like to direct the film, it would be a lot of fun.”

It would indeed, Mr. Johnston! Especially if it allows him to make up for his undignified exit in RETURN OF THE JEDI (nobody really believes he's gonna rot down there in the Pit of Carkoon, right?) or wipe away the memories of that rubbish kid in ATTACK OF THE CLONES.

Of course, this would be absolutely awesome news – if it were ever going to happen. Sure, Johnston has a long history with Lucasfilm - he actually contributed to the Boba Fett character design - but Lucas is notoriously hands-on with his universe. To think he’d relinquish creative control over the property for a big-screen STAR WARS movie is crazy. It's not to say we'll never see Fett on screen again however - the plot of his long-in-development live action TV show (read about it here) is believed to feature bounty hunters pretty heavily, so it’s very likely that Mr. Fett could make an appearance there.

In the past we’ve heard other folks talk about their desire to make STAR WARS movies, including Zack Snyder (300; DAWN OF THE DEAD). At least when the TV show finally ends up going before cameras there’s going to be no shortage of talent to helm the episodes. The prospect of more movies however, that will have to remain a pipe-dream until Lucas goes all Force Ghost-y.
