Currently carrying out promotional work for Michael Bay’s PAIN AND GAIN, Anthony Mackie spoke to Moviefone about CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Mackie will be playing the Falcon in Marvel’s Cap sequel.

He said, “This movie has kind of become ‘AVENGERS 1.5′ if you look at the cast they’ve put together, if you look at the number of characters that are in this movie. It’s a huge number of superheroes and characters. The basic idea is that you have Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon that get together to take down the Winter Soldier.”

The film will focus on the re-emergence of Cap’s chum, Bucky Barnes. Last seen falling to his apparent death, it’s revealed that Bucky was actually found and frozen by those pesky Russians; being kept in ice and defrosted to carry out missions as and when needed. Suffering from memory loss and fitted with a robotic arm, Bucky becomes known as the Winter Soldier, arguably the coolest villain the Cap world.

Starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Georges St-Pierre, Max Hernandez and Robert Redford, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER has already begun shooting. The film is scheduled for a 4th April, 2014 release.
