Movie News: Learn Who's In The Running To Inherit The Eye-Patch In ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake

Movie News

Some spurious casting news here, but in the slim chance Daily News are on to something with their “insiders”, then it’s best we forewarn you who’s in the running to take over from Kurt Russell in the recently announced ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK reboot trilogy. Replacing Gerard Butler and Jeremy Renner, whose names were frequently mentioned last time this project was threatened, are these fellas...

Tom Hardy + Jason Statham

Now the movie is definitely happening, we might as well get used to the notion of somebody new wearing the eye-patch. Tom Hardy is an excellent choice, but he’s already going to be our new Mad Max – taking Plissken too might be a tad on the greedy side. Still, we could live with it. The Stath though? I can only speak for myself here, but that's a colossal mistake. He may have the gravelly tone down pat, but his American accent remains shocking, and we highly doubt they’re about to change the nationality of Plissken.

As we said earlier, these are only rumours at this point, so it’s nothing to get too concerned about if you’re wary of either of these choices.

Who would be your ideal choice to take over the seminal role? Let us know in the comments below…

Statham is an appalling idea, the guy can't act and his attempt at an American accent is laughable.
Karl Urban would be an interesting choice. As Dwankie Dave said, he was brilliant in Dredd and he's proved he can rock long hair in Lord Of The Rings.
But yeah, why not Kurt Russell, for John Carpenter's sake?

Madds Mikelsen.

Anyone but Statham.

Oh god, not Statham..... I'd rather have Jeremy Renner (so long as actually poke out one of his eyes for the role).
But really, Karl Urban gets my vote. He was a great Dredd and with that franchise dead and buried, I think Snake would be a great vehicle for him.

Or as a wild and out there idea, they could cast Kurt Russell!

Didn't Guy Pearce already kind of audition for this part in Lockout? And he kind of did an okay job at it.
