It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything on the remake of the 1990 Joel Schumacher movie, but today comes news that Sony may have nailed down a director in the form of Niels Arden Oplev. Oplev is best known for helming the original adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO in 2009, but has recently made his Western debut with the forthcoming action thriller DEAD MAN DOWN, and the significantly more interesting UNDER THE DOME, of which he handled the pilot.

Julian Sark from ALIAS. Oh, sorry, no it's Niels Arden Oplev.
Honestly, I’m not particularly fond of Schumacher’s version beyond its intriguing premise – medical students perform controlled deaths on each other in search of answers to the mysteries of the afterlife – so this is one remake that has the potential to top the original.
More as it develops…
