Movie News: Lucasfilm Developing HAN SOLO and BOBA FETT Spin-Off Projects?

Movie News

And the STAR WARS news just keeps-on-a-comin’. With confirmation that we're most likely to be looking at a new movie set in the Galaxy far, far away every year from 2015 onwards, we might as well get used to a daily dose of STAR WARS speculation from here on in...

To recap, yesterday saw the rumour break that a Yoda-centric movie solo adventure was in the works. While Lucasfilm nor Disney would speak on the matter, it wasn’t long after that Mouse House President Bob Iger did confirm that writers Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan were indeed working on developing a variety of standalone films set outside of the main Saga narrative.

Now comes more rumours from Entertainment Weekly, who have revealed that – according to their sources – the two projects being looked at first will focus on Young Han Solo and Boba Fett.

Plot-wise, the Han Solo movie is reported to take place sometime between REVENGE OF THE SITH and A NEW HOPE, while the Fett flick would be set post-A NEW HOPE. One hopes it’s actually set post-RETURN OF THE JEDI, as we still have trouble believing he could have possibly ended his legacy of being the Galaxy’s most revered bounty hunter by falling into the bloody Sarlacc Pit.

If the rumours are true, it would be criminal if the job of directing the Boba Fett movie didn’t go to Joe Johnston, who not only contributed to the character’s design but has campaigned for this very movie’s existence for years!

As for the Han Solo project, there’s certain character’s that just belong to the actor who first portrayed them. Anybody can play someone like, say, Jack Ryan (and we’re on to our fourth now), but there’ll always only ever be one Han Solo. He’s too iconic. Slapping a natty vest on Paul Walker and standing him next to a Wookie does not a Han Solo make. (Note: We plucked the Paul Walker thing out of the air - don’t worry, he’s not in contention. But he might well be one day, that’s our point!)

As always, treat this info with a pinch of salt for now, but expect solid deets soon...

I'm disappointed. It sounds like they are rehashing a new storyline between episodes again. I wish they would move beyond Return of the Jedi and focus on rebuilding the republic and the Jedi.
