What with the Thundercats and Hulk returning to our TV screens, G.I. Joe 2 on the way, Transformers tearing up our multiplexes and now this - the week's turning into a flashback-inducing nostalgia-fest for those of us that grew up in the '80s.

Sony Vice President DeVon Franklin has just announced that they're expecting to get a certain long-rumoured live-action reboot back into development asap - "One of other things I'm really excited about is we're doing a reboot of the 1980s franchise Masters of the Universe. The He-Man franchise," Franklin says, adding that he's "Very excited about [it]. Should have that script very soon. I'm praying that we can start figuring out how we're going to make it."

So what's been the hold up? Given the success of Hasbro's toy line turned box office mega stars The Transformers, it's unusual that Mattel haven't managed to replicate the business model. Sony have had the property since 2009, but if you consider the names attached to the property even before that - John Woo, Joel Silver, KUNG FU PANDA'S John Stevenson, to name but a few - one can only assume that this is a tougher nut to crack than initially thought. How does one go about getting that fondly remembered, but admittedly rather camp world on screen, without making the same mistakes Cannon films did back in 1987?

I can still remember how annoyed I was as a kid after seeing this.

Anyway, consider Starburst excited about the prospect of these beloved characters getting a second crack at big screen success (third if you count the HE-MAN & SHE-RA CHRISTMAS SPECIAL that had a limited cinema run in '85*). We shall keep you in the loop on all further developments!

* Sorry you had to sit through that, mum.

Who would your dream cast be, folks? Or are your memories of the muscle-bound heroes best left in your parent's attic? Let us know with your comments below!

enough eighties nostalgia! enough!

The maths will move things on soon enough, us kids of the 80s are now prime targets for this crap, what with our 'disposable incomes' and all.
