Movie News: Paul Giamatti Joining AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2?

Movie News

When Paul Giamatti was a kid, he dreamed of being a Spider-Man villain. Not Spider-Man, but one of his many foes. But which villain could it be I hear you asking? Doc Ock? Sandman maybe? Hobgoblin perhaps? The film is currently looking for a Norman Osbourne, maybe he had dreams of being Green Goblin? It would seem that all of these major Spidey villains stand in the shadow of his dream to one day be... The Rhino!

"I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid," Giamatti told ShowbizSpy back in 2011."It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, 'Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,' but maybe The Rhino wasn't that big of a deal for anybody but me... If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting."

Now The Rhino may not spring to mind as being the top of your dream list to see on film, but it evidently is for the SIDEWAYS star and according to The Hollywood Reporter he may get his wish. It would seem that he is currently in talks to join returning cast members Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and newcomer Jamie Foxx (as Electro).

Given that the cast is already pretty full (with rumours of Felicity Jones joining the cast in an unspecified role) it’s unclear just how big a part Giamatti and Rhino would play in the film. Maybe he’ll appear at the beginning of the film as the villain Spider-Man takes care of before moving on to the main body of the film rather than in another forced big screen bad guy team up.

Either way, we’ll find out when AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits cinema screens April 18th 2014.
