Movie News: GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Shooting Next Summer?

Written by Kris Heys Thursday, 18 October 2012

Movie News

After years of rumours surrounding the project’s on-again-off-again status, it finally looks like the long-awaited (and long-feared by many) sequel to the horror/comedy classic could be happening.

Deadline was the first to break the news, reporting that Sony Pictures have delayed their plans to shoot a high-profile Kevin Costner sports picture (nooooo!!!), so as to allow that film’s director, one Ivan Reitman, enough room to return to the franchise he helped launch in 1984 and shoot GHOSTBUSTERS 3 in the summer of 2013. The threequel would then arrive in pictures 2014, just in time for the original's thirtieth anniversary.

That’s right, this still isn’t an official announcement by any means, and yes, it could just be yet more scuttlebutt. We’ll await word from Sony before we get too excited/nervous.

As for where the project is in terms of story (for those who have better things to do with their lives than obsessively follow GB3 news), it will indeed be a ‘passing of the torch’ movie, that way ensuring the franchise can live on should it hit big enough. And the movie will not feature Bill Murray at all, dead or alive. They gave up the ghost on that a long time ago.

A Ghostbusters movie without Bill Murray is no Ghostbusters movie at all :(
