The first two pieces of concept art have just been revealed, and they're a lot more encouraging than the teaser poster that's for sure! Check 'em out...

Good stuff. More please, Disney!

Here's the newly released teaser poster for Disney's long-in-production adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter series (specifically the first - PRINCESS OF MARS).

The powers-that-be, in their infinite wisdom, recently announced they've ditched the 'OF MARS' portion of the title, though it's curious to see their use of the abreviation JCM. Might they have realised the stripped down title JOHN CARTER sounds, well, a little bit rubbish?

Anyway, let's have a look...

So, what do you guys think?

For those amongst us unfamiliar, here's the film's official synopsis:

"From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"--a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands."

JOHN CARTER (OF MARS) opens in September 2012.

John Carter tells the casual viewer nothing but OF MARS tells everyone it's a sci-fi. But maybe that's the way they want it for riht now... I've not read the books but intend to try the first one before this one opens.

I like the bold graphic style, but it does look like some non-design guy popped his head in the meeting and cried about not showing the actor or something similar, and it's ended up with an apologetic transparency of a cool logo over a sweaty dude .
Shame, so near yet so far.
