Movie News

It’s been rumoured for a while now, but news comes in that the screen adaptation of Neil Gaimain’s AMERICAN GODS is finally heading to TV courtesy of Tom Hanks' production company Playtone. And on the eve of the book's 10 year anniversary to boot! Nice.

The show, which will air on HBO (natch), has an ambitious six season(!) narrative planned, with a generous $40 million budget (per season) with which to render Gaiman’s world. Have to admire the network's commitment to the material, very rare in these troubled times (that have even got George Lucas running scared.)

Here’s a brief synopsis for those unfamiliar with the critically acclaimed novel:

“Released from prison, Shadow finds his world turned upside down. His wife has been killed; a mysterious stranger offers him a job. But Mr. Wednesday, who knows more about Shadow than is possible, warns that a storm is coming -- a battle for the very soul of America . . . and they are in its direct path.”

Though in much earlier stages, Gaiman’s hugely popular SANDMAN is also being groomed for the TV treatment, with news last March that DC’s Geoff Johns is working with the creator/writer himself to bring Dream to our screens.

As usual we’ll keep you informed on any and all developments!
