Movie News

Following on from the announcement last week that Joss Whedon will indeed return to write and direct, Disney/Marvel Studios have now revealed when the Avengers will re-assemble for their sequel. Go tell your boss that you’ll not be coming into work on MAY 1st 2015. Tell them a family member died or something.

The sequel is also expected to follow the THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA sequels and carry a subtitle as opposed to a boring old numeral, so until that’s revealed, the studio is referring to it in all press statements as UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL. Or UMAS, if you will.

If you need more reason to be excited for the film, bear in mind that Whedon was brought into the first quite late on in the game, and had to work from a pre-existing screenplay (which he rewrote, but still). This time, with a 3-year lead in, he’ll be able to shape the project to his complete liking. Well, as long as it fits in with the arcs set up in CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, ANT-MAN (probably) and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY that is!

And talking of GOTG, here’s a brief plot synopsis that's been doing the rounds on the internets today:

“[GOTG is] About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.”

For those who know their GOTG mythos, you’ll have probably already identified the U.S. pilot as either Peter Quill (later known as Star-Lord), or Vance Astrovik.

As previously reported, Nicole Perlman’s script (currently being re-drafted by buzz-worthy screenwriter Chris McCoy) will feature (pictured below, left to right), Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora.

In IRON MAN 3 news, production has been halted temporarily to allow Robert Downey Jr. to recover from a foot injury which occurred during a stunt. Anybody got the number of the Dark Knight’s doctor? He worked miracles on Wayne’s knee! The injury is not thought to be serious enough to affect the April 26th 2013 release date. Get well soon, Tony!

Marvel also today teased a brand new AVENGERS-themed mobile game heading our way, but besides this teaser image below they’re playing schtum. More news as we get it. But we wouldn't get too excited. Most of these things are pretty crap, let's be honest.

Finally, it looks like Marvel Studios will be able to soon fold the character of DAREDEVIL into their cinematic universe! With Fox deciding not to pursue their proposed reboot (they reportedly didn't like director Joe Carnahan's pitch reel, and once you watch them below you'll see why - awesome as it is, that's one risky approach), the rights are set to lapse and revert back to its rightful home.

Could the character be a suitable candidate to head up the Marvel TV show perhaps?

Here's those very cool Carnahan videos mentioned above. Anybody name all the movies used?...
