Movie News

Bits n' bobs from this week's genre news...

* The TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES are heading back to the big-screen in a new live-action feature. Paramount have charged MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL writers Josh Applebaum & Andre Nemec with their own impossible mission – to make this franchise credible again.

* There’s a WRONG TURN 4?! Yup. Sorry guys, I bailed at 2. Here’s the trailer for anybody still interested in the mutant-hillbilly-horror franchise…

* EVIL DEAD: THE GAME is now available for your iPhone or iPad. Download from the iTunes Store for just £1.79 as I'm doing right now!

* Dwayne Johnson is in talks to play Roadblock in sequel G.I. JOE: COBRA STRIKES. You know what – and I'm aware I’m alone on this – I enjoyed the hell out of the first flick, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Great fun.

* Here’s the first official trailer for STAR WARS: KINETIC. I now need an Xbox 360.

* In a recent interview with AICN Steven Speilberg revealed he still has a soft spot for JAWS, and often mulls a return to the one-time franchise: “I have a very, very good scene which I thought would have been good for a sequel someday, which I will tell you some other day because I don’t want it in print. Every time I think of this scene I think, 'Hmmm, could this be another Jaws movie?' and I have to immediately stop myself and immediately pull myself back down to Earth."

* Here's the new FRIGHT NIGHT trailer – finally featuring footage of David Tennant as Peter Vincent (we were getting a mite concerned at his ommision from the previous promos.) As much as I cherish the 1985 original, I have to admit I’m getting very excited for this…

* Jim Carrey is interested in reprising some of his most popular roles - “We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about... There's Bruce Almighty and we're talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber." More DUMB AND DUMBER? Yes please, original still manages to crack me up. BRUCE ALMIGHTY though? Surely the abysmal EVAN ALMIGHTY was enough. But why’s ACE VENTURA not in the mix?

* An animated KING KONG feature is currently in the works, courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox. The movie will this time tell the classic tale from Kong’s perspective. Wait, what?

* Yes! DEATH RACE 3 is a go! Universal have greenlit a second sequel to Paul Anderson’s remake, which, like the previous flick will remain merfifully Statham-free. Expect this to hit DVD sometime in 2012.

* Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH will be given the ‘Extended Cut’ treatment when released on Blu-Ray in the USA this month, adding an additional 18 minutes to the running time. No word yet on whether the Region 2 edition will be given the same courtesy, so fans (and there are a few of us!) should prepare to pony up for the import.
