Movie News: Bill Murray Officially Out Of GHOSTBUSTERS 3

Movie News

There has been endless speculation over the last few months as to whether or not GHOSTBUSTERS 3 would actually ever happen, who would be involved and what the plot would be. There was also the rather nasty rumour that Bill Murray had sent the shredded screenplay back to Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis with a note attached saying ‘Nobody wants to see old guys chasing ghosts’. This was apparently tabloid nonsense though and more recently, Murray said that they were still trying to make the script work with him involved. Etan Cohen was re-writing the script that had been commissioned by THE OFFICE writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

Supposedly now it seems that Murray is definitely out as Cohen has been writing a version of the screenplay that does not feature Murray’s Peter Venkman character. Aykroyd then told Metro: “No he won’t be involved” later going on to say that “Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill” and also re-iterating the fact that the story will be a passing of the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters.

The sad fact is that neither Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis or Ernie Hudson is much of a box office draw these days so a green light may depend on Bill Murray being involved. Although I am curious to see the eventual finished project, this sounds very much like it’s now circling the drain.
