Movie News: Animated Short RUIN Picked Up For Development Into a Feature

Written by Chris Holt Saturday, 21 July 2012

Ruin

Strange how times change, now with the plethora of online streaming websites it’s easier than ever to get your short film seen and the really lucky ones end up getting picked up by the studios who are starved of original ideas. The latest one to get picked up is Wes Ball’s animated short RUIN.

RUIN tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world overrun by plant growth and hints at the involvement of nano-technology. That’s about it for story because most of the 8 minutes or so is all about a thrilling chase between a hover ship and a scavenger on a motorbike. It’s visually very accomplished. Even without a script in place, 20th Century Fox have bought the project and intend to produce it through McG’s production company. Ball will co-write the screenplay with T.S Nowlin and former Lucasfilm exec Steve Tzirlin will produce.
