Despite the criticisms some of us leveled at THE HUNGER GAMES, the one thing nobody could argue with is the casting, with Jennifer Lawrence et al delivering pretty stellar performances across the board. It’s encouraging that this approach seems to be continuing on sequel CATCHING FIRE, with the news that the brilliant but underused actress Jenna Malone is in talks for the role of Johanna Mason, a former winner of the Hunger Games who is once again drafted into the tournament along with Katniss. It's kind of like a cruel Celebrity Big Brother version of the show for one-time survivors.
Malone is best known for her co-starring role in Richard Kelly’s cult hit DONNIE DARKO, and last year’s unfairly maligned SUCKER PUNCH.
Expect conformation to hit very soon...
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE opens in UK cinemas November 22nd 2013.
